The cornerstone for the building was placed on September 11, 1912, with construction ending sometime in 1913. In 1994, the church was disbanded, and it was purchased by a group of local residents for the purpose of promoting local art. Since then, the Living Museum has become an important part of Altamont’s culture, hosting high school plays, community plays, bluegrass acts, and more.
